What’s
The Matter With Playing A Joke On Someone Every
Now And Then?
Proverbs 26:18,19 tells us that anyone who
deceives his neighbor and says, "I was only
joking," is like a madman who shoots arrows. That
puts a clearer perspective on the way we joke with
people, doesn't it?
Sometimes we forget how powerful our words can be.
It may not seem like a big deal to us when we kid
around with somebody in a cruel way, but more than
likely, it is a very big deal to them.
Aren't we supposed to love our neighbor like
ourselves? If we really believe this, we are going
to take into account how other people feel.
Like a madman shooting firebrands or deadly arrows
is a man who deceives his neighbor and says, "I
was only joking!" (Prov. 26:18-19 NIV).
It is time to exercise self-control over your
tongue. Don't make cruel comments about others. It
doesn't matter if you are joking. If you shoot
deadly arrows, those arrows will one day come
shooting back at you.
